studio and home gallery
Oito house is the home and studio of Tom Andries and Christl Martens. The architecture was inspired by the Eames House in Los Angeles which was built in 1949 by husband-and-wife design pioneers Charles and Ray Eames and served as their home and studio. The Eames House is a landmark of mid-20th century modern architecture based on the case study house Charles Eames created while still at University.
The 'Oito' house is named after the No. 8 Case study house, which when translated means 'eight' in old Portuguese. Based on Tom's original drawings, the Oito house is located in the forests of Rotselaar, Belgium, and was designed by Belgian architects: Bart Coenen Buro 20_18. The foundations of Oito house are carved into a steep forest slope where the house, constructed in glass, steel and dark wood, sits atop a steel frame surrounded by the forest trees.
